Spring: What’s In Season

array of spring vegetables

Spring has sprung! That means better weather and an abundance of fruits and veggies at their peak of deliciousness.

Juicy strawberries. Crunchy radicchio. Tangy rhubarb. They’re all designed by Mother Earth herself to help us transition with the environment around us.

With all types of food available year round, it’s easy to lose touch with seasonality. Now that spring is in full bloom, there’s never been a better time to reconnect. Here’s why:

  • Peak produce, peak nutrition: Produce holds the highest amounts of vitamins and nutrients when it’s harvested at its peak. It’s a whole new level to “nutrient timing” and your body will thank you for it.

  • Immunity defense: The essential compounds in spring’s fruits and veggies can help keep the (tele)doctor away. Supplements help, but get ‘em straight from the source whenever possible.

  • Detoxify: Look your best and, more importantly, feel your best. Shed the sweaters in style with fiber and vital minerals in every meal.

  • Pass on pesticides: When plants are harvested at the right time of year, they don’t need tons of chemicals to keep bugs at bay. For even less pesticides, go organic whenever possible.

  • Save the planet: Reduce your carbon footprint with locally-grown produce. A little less travel from the ground to your table makes a big environmental difference.

  • Harmonize with nature: Blossom along and stay in tune with the rhythm of spring. It may sound hippy-dippy, but it’s true! When we enjoy nature’s bounty, we grow a deeper appreciation for all it has to offer.

Peak Spring Produce

A few of our hand-picked spring faves

Spring is nature’s way of saying “Let’s party!” Make it a proper fiesta with these nutritional powerhouses:

bunch of asparagus

Asparagus

‘Tis the season for one of our favorite sides. All it needs is a little bit of lemon, EVOO, and LOVE to round out your meal. Every spear is packed with good nutrition, too – vitamins A, C, E, and K, fiber, folate, and more!

colander and cutting board with strawberries

Strawberries

Spring marks the start of California’s peak harvesting season for extra sweet strawberries. They also come with lots of tasty health benefits! These ruby red gems are an excellent source of folate, potassium, and antioxidants like vitamin C for stronger immunity and healthier skin.

tangerines on a cutting board

Ojai Pixie Tangerines

Locally grown in Ojai, CA, these tangerines are exceptionally juicy and easy-to-peel, delivering a sweet experience from start to finish. Naturally, they’re chock full of Vitamin C, but they also deliver a fair amount of fiber which can help to offset your sugar intake.

And that’s just a taste of what spring has in store! Get ready for apricots, artichokes, arugula, cherries, cucumbers, pea pods, radishes, and more. They’re all on the way from our farmers to your table.
