Ingredients
2 pounds sweet potatoes
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
Optional Ingredients
Fresh herbs like parsley or chives for garnish
Directions
-
Peel the potatoes and cut them into chunks. Rinse them under cold water to remove any excess starch.
-
Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Add a pinch of salt to the water.
-
Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat and cook the potatoes until they are tender, which should take about 15 to 20 minutes.
-
While the potatoes are cooking, heat the milk and butter in a small saucepan over low heat until the butter has melted.
-
Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot. Use a potato masher or a fork to mash the potatoes until they're smooth.
-
Slowly pour in the melted butter and milk mixture while continuing to mash the potatoes.
-
Add the salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and ground cumin. Mix well to incorporate the spices into the mashed potatoes.
-
Taste the mashed potatoes and adjust the seasoning if needed.
-
Transfer the spiced mashed potatoes to a serving dish and garnish with fresh herbs, if desired.
