This week’s recipe comes from Bristol’s own Kevin Davis. He’s not only the President, Chairman and
CEO but also father of seven! Kevin’s family loves his
sandwich creation that features the extraordinary
flavorful Bratwurst sausage from our Meat Department,
and we admit that we love this sandwich, too!
Ingredients:
4 links Bristol Farms fresh Bratwurst Sausage
8 slices Sourdough or rye bread, thick cut for sandwiches
1/2 cup Sauerkraut
2 each Kosher dill pickles, cut into quarters lengthwise
1 to 2 Large tomatoes, sliced thin
8 slices Swiss cheese
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) Butter, softened to room temperature
Method: Pre-heat BBQ Grill
1. Split one side of each sausage lengthwise but not quite all the way through and and open flat.
2. Place sausage on grill over medium heat and cook 3-5 minutes per side or until cooked through.
3. Heat sauerkraut in sauce pan on low heat until warm.
4. Heat large sauté pan or flat grill over medium flame, butter one side of each slice of bread and
place 4 slices of bread on sauté pan with the butter side down. Top with grilled sausage, pickle
spear, warm sauerkraut, tomato and Swiss cheese and top with second slice of bread, butter side
up (just like a grill cheese sandwich). Cook until golden brown then carefully flip sandwich over
and grill until golden brown and cheese is melted.
Condiments: Hearty gold or brown mustard, Thousand Island dressing and mayonnaise. Serve cut in half on plate with chips, fries or potato salad for an authentic Reuben style taste.
